The two words that everyone simultaneous loves and hates to hear: beach season

If you've been running all winter, eating right, and regularly hitting the gym... good for you. But if you're like most of us, you're probably regretting all those late-night snacking sessions you partook in over the winter. Luckily, it's not too late for you to get in shape and improve your health for this summer and future beach seasons. Before you grab your custom beach towels and your suntan lotion, start with these few tips to shed a few pounds and look your best:

Start walking more -- You don't have to run five miles a day or workout seven times a week to get in healthier shape. All you have to do is increase your activity levels a little bit. For example, if you work at a desk job, you probably don't do all that much running around. Spend some time each morning walking around the block or your building at work -- even taking a few extra steps a day can turn into positive results after a few weeks. If you can, try and go for a walk at least two or three times a day.

Stop snacking at night -- Even if you workout quite often and are taking care of your body, eating unhealthy foods late at night can ruin all your healthy progress. There is a new weight-loss trend that is gaining popularity across the country called intermittent fasting that you could consider -- in consultation with your doctor and at your own pace. All you have to do is eat a healthy dinner in the evening and then skip out on your late-night snacking. Then, in the morning, you can eat another healthy meal and you'll feel energized and will be looking great!

Go for a swim -- Since beach season involves spending countless hours in the water, you might as well get comfortable swimming early. Swimming is a great way to burn some calories and lose some weight. Additionally, swimming can help decrease major health concerns. In fact, just two and a half hours per week of swimming can decrease your risk of chronic illnesses. Grab some beach towels and hit the pool a little before you hit the beach.
