Acceptable Formats

We accept a wide range of file types, but certain files ensure a more accurate reproduction and shorter turn around time. Use the information below to help you prepare your files for our art department.

BEST: Vector based graphic files (EPS, AI, PDF, SVG) are ideal for print production since they can be scaled without loss of quality. Vector graphics are comprised of paths, which are defined by a start and end point, along with other points, curves, and angles along the way. A path can be a line, a square, a triangle, or a curvy shape. These paths can be used to create simple drawings or complex diagrams. Paths are even used to define the characters of specific typefaces.

You will notice the difference between the Vector vs Raster images above. The right image is a “Raster” image. You can see that, when zoomed in, the image becomes pixelated and blurry. This is NOT ideal for printing. The image on the Left, however, remains very smooth and non-jagged. This is because the image on the left was created in VECTOR format, which IS ideal for printing.

Please see the Helpful Tips for Vector Files at the bottom of the page to make sure your files are set up for optimum printing.

GOOD: High resolution, large size raster images JPG, PNG, TIFF, and PSD are made up of pixels, classifying them as “Raster, but the more pixels the better the detail, which makes these the best of the raster image options for converting to the print friendly vector format. Raster graphics are made up of a grid of pixels. The higher the resolution and larger the image size is the more readable the file. This ensures that small details are more defined and won't be left out when converting to vector. The difference file size makes can be seen in the Raster Image Comparison above.

OK: Low resolution and small size raster image files such as JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF and PSD are fine, but all elements must be visible (ie all text can be read, shapes can be seen, etc.). If the file requires a significant amount of restoration, there may be a fee for conversion.

Helpful Tips for Vector Files

When sending us vector files, please be sure to make sure to outline all fonts. This can be done in Adobe Illustrator by selecting all text boxes and selecting Type > Create Outlines.

Also the be sure that any externally linked files are embedded in the files sent. Embedding files will make it part of the actual file and not a reference to an external one, ensuring elements won't appear as "missing" when we try to access them. Use the following steps to do this in Adobe Illustrator: 1. Click on your image and open the “Links” Window (Can be accessed by going to Window > Links) 2. In the drop down in the upper right corner of the "Links" window, select "Embed Image(s)"

When applicable, always be sure to check that all PMS colors are indicated and properly applied.
