As the winter months come to an end and summer approaches, beach lovers everywhere are packing their beach bags to head out and catch some sun. If you fall into this category and you're finding yourself overpacking or not packing enough beach supplies, here's a quick rundown of all necessary beach essentials.

First, beach towels are an absolute necessity, even if you don't plan on going in the water. The bigger, the better. Embroidered beach towels offer an extra touch of personalization and can make your towel easier to spot from far away. There are many different types of embroidered beach towels, and they come in many different materials and sizes. Pick the type of towel that suits you best.

Staying hydrated is also a necessary part of going to the beach. Being out in the hot sun all day is sure to make you dehydrated, so make sure you bring plenty of cold water. Pro tip: Bring an extra gallon of water, keep it in your car, and use it to rinse yourself off before driving home to avoid a sandy mess in your car.

Another necessity when spending a lot of time in the hot sun is sunscreen. Forget this, and you risk getting a terrible sunburn that could have long-term effects and increase your risk of developing skin cancer. A whole 53% of beachgoers prefer to sunbathe, so stay protected and slather on the sunscreen. Make sure it's a high SPF.

If you're going to want to get out of the sun for awhile, it's a good idea to bring a big, shady umbrella to stay cool. This not only protects you from the sun's harsh rays, it also protects against the sun's reflection off the sand, which can be intense as well. If you don't think you'll need it, you should consider leaving one in your car, just in case.

If you're going to be laying in the sand all day, it's a good idea to bring an extra change of clothes as well. That way, you can enjoy your time at the beach without bringing it home with you.

Finally, make sure to bring plenty of entertainment. Footballs, beach balls, frisbees, music, books and magazines, and more -- there are virtually limitless possibilities for fun.

Above all, the most important thing to bring to the beach is a positive and upbeat attitude. Getting outside and enjoying nature is one of the best ways to have a great time.
